Democritus (c. 460-370 BCE) — synopsis
↑ All People | Democritus
This dude, like rocked!
Leucippus’s student. Abderan polymath, 70+ books (none survive complete), lived to ~90. Took atomism and made it a complete materialist worldview: atoms and void are the only real things; everything else — color, taste, even thought — is secondary, the effect of atoms colliding. Plato wanted his books burned. Aristotle disagreed, seriously. Two thousand years later we know he was right about the ontology and wrong about the indivisibility.
